I became a voice teacher, not only because she loved to sing, but also because when I was growing up, I lived in a rural town in Kentucky. My parents took me to the two vocal teachers who were nearby, but in the 8th grade, my teacher told my mother that I had advanced beyond her teaching capability. So, my dad (who owned his own business), my mom (who was a college professor), and I (an only child) would drive 3 hours to Lexington, Ky. and back home one day a week and I studied with professors.
As I got older, I realized what a gift that was. How many children in Appalachia had parents who could take off and afford to pay for lessons with a professor? I was very thankful. I decided when I was 18 that no child should be deprived of lessons in the area I lived in. At age 18, I started my first children’s music and drama program for the local YMCA. After doing that for four years, I graduated from college, and immediately started to build the music and drama Arts Education Program at the Mountain Arts Center, where I worked for three years. Then, I got the opportunity to build music and drama programs for our local campuses of Kentucky Community and Technical College. I built 7 various choirs and with two of my co-workers, built an Eastern Kentucky Idol program in every high school in 5 counties. We were able to give college scholarships to 12 students each year for their vocal talent.
When I moved to Virginia, I opened my voice studio in my home and began teaching and building a music program for Virginia Western Community College. It is still my goal to provide lesson packages that are affordable.
PLEASE NOTE: At this time, all lessons are held remotely, over Zoom or Facetime (Zoom preferred) due to the COVID-19 outbreak. It is my hope that in-person lessons will resume as soon as it is safe to do so.

Nothing, it will be part of your child’s regular lessons.
WHAT DOES THE SING-4-HIM WORSHIP ADD-ON ENTAIL?
Each term the student will sing 3 songs, and at least one will be worship-focused.
LAURA AND THE STUDENT WILL CHOOSE THE SONG(S) THEY WILL SING.
Each lesson, Laura will send/give the student an image or printed Bible Verse about Singing for the Lord
LAURA WILL TEACH THE STUDENT WHAT IT MEANS TO SING WITH A HEART OF WORSHIP: HOW SINGING FOR THE LORD IS DIFFERENT THAN SINGING A SECULAR POP, COUNTRY, OR SHOWTUNE, FOR EXAMPLE.
Laura will teach her students how to lead worship.
She will teach students HOW to focus on God when they sing, and how to truly serve God through song, on stage, while worshiping.
